Grace for the Gaps
Grace, marvelous grace! I don’t know about you, but being a ministry wife and mom requires much grace!
The definition of grace: God giving us what we don’t deserve. He gives us grace and will fill the gaps – if we let Him.
And He has said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for power is perfected in weakness.” Most gladly, therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may dwell in me.
2 Corinthians 12:9 (NIV)
We are women who wear many hats—pastor’s wives, ministry partners, mothers, friends, counselors, encouragers, professionals, and the list goes on.
Some days, it feels like there are not enough of you to go around. You minister to your husband, care for your children, and pour into women in your church, and you often feel stretched thin. All the while, fifty-seven percent of you reading this are working a full-time, for-profit sector job. You have a career to make ends meet and, for many, to provide medical insurance for the family.
Anxiety can be at an all-time high during these days! It can rule us! We can become so overwhelmed that we forget the truth of God’s Word! Plates are spinning, and we can forget what we know.
You know the truth: God’s strength is made perfect in weakness. But when you’re wiping tears from your toddler’s face while your phone buzzes with a church crisis, you need to finish dinner, or you need to finish a project for work, it’s hard to remember this. It is hard to fathom that God is in the details; when you need to get a child to a practice or a church member needs a listening ear, it can be hard to remember that grace is not something you have to earn—it’s already present and sufficient.
You are not called to perfection. You are called to be faithful. And faithfulness often looks like small, unseen acts of service: a whispered prayer at the kitchen sink, a patient word to your child when you’re exhausted, a gentle “yes” to your husband even when you’re emotionally tired.
The Lord sees you. He fills the gaps you feel. He sustains your soul when your hands are full. His grace is not just a safety net for when you fall—it’s the daily strength beneath your every step.
Remember, you are a great mom if you are a faithful mom! Faithful to be who God has called you to be. Just be His. He knows your life better than even you. Trust Him daily and let Him help you take the next step.
Questions to reflect on and ponder, then take them to your Father.
- Where do you most feel your limits are—in ministry, motherhood, or both?
- How can you lean into God’s grace instead of your strength today?
- Is there something you need to let go of so you can rest more deeply in Christ?
Prayer
Father, thank You for Your sustaining grace. I confess I often feel overwhelmed trying to be everything for everyone. Help me remember that You are the true Shepherd of my home and my church. Remind me that Your grace is enough for the messy, loud, beautiful life You’ve given me. Fill me with Your peace today. Amen.
