Jesus and the Choice He made…We All Make Choices

As we celebrate Easter this week…

I’ve been thinking and pondering my choices over the years: the choice I made to follow Jesus, surrender to ministry, and fall in love and marry my preacher man. Choices are ever before us, and the greatest choice was made by our Savior. He chose to die for you and me. My current memory verse is: “This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down His life for us. And we ought to lay down our lives for our brothers and sisters.” (I John 3:16). He loves us so!

“…though He was in the form of God, did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but emptied Himself, by taking the form of a servant… He humbled Himself by becoming obedient to the point of death, even death on a cross.”

— Philippians 2:6–8 (ESV)

We all make daily choices—what to say, how to respond, and who to trust. Some choices seem small, but others carry eternal weight.

But long before we ever chose Jesus… He chose us.

He chose to leave the throne for a cradle.

He chose humanity over heaven’s glory.

He chose the cross.

Jesus had every right to remain in divine splendor. But in love, He chose surrender and in doing so, gave us the greatest gift—salvation. The cross was not forced on Him; it was embraced by Him“No one takes it from me,” He said, “but I lay it down of my own accord” (John 10:18).

And because of the choice He made, we now face a choice of our own:

  • Will we choose to trust Him, even when it’s hard?
  • Will we choose obedience, even when it costs us?
  • Will we choose to follow, even when the road is steep?

His decision calls us higher—not to earn His love, but to respond to it. He chose you. What will you choose today?

📚 Scriptures for Further Meditation as we ponder His choice and His sacrifice.

  • Luke 22:42 – “Father, if You are willing, take this cup from Me; yet not My will, but Yours be done.”
  • Hebrews 12:2 – “…who for the joy set before Him endured the cross…”
  • Deuteronomy 30:19 – “Now choose life…”
  • Joshua 24:15 – “Choose this day whom you will serve…”

✍️ Reflection Questions

  1. What part of Jesus’ choice to go to the cross speaks most to your heart today?
  2. Is there an area where you sense God inviting you to choose surrender?
  3. How can Jesus’ example empower you to make godly choices in relationships, ministry, or family?
  4. What’s one tangible step of obedience you can take this week?

🙏 Prayer

Jesus,

Thank You for the choice You made. You chose to humble Yourself, love me sacrificially, and lay down Your life. Help me remember that love when I face my own choices. Give me the courage to obey You, the grace to follow You, and a heart that says “yes” even when it’s hard. Because You chose me, I choose You—today and every day.

Amen.

For ministry wives, leaders, and women walking faithfully: may this devotional be a gentle reminder that every yes, every surrender, every unseen sacrifice matters—because the One who chose you walks with you still.
