Grains of Sand

Week 24, Wednesday

Diane Nix

You made all the delicate, inner parts of my body and knit me together in my mother’s womb. . . . You saw me before I was born. Every day of my life was recorded in your book. Every moment was laid out before a single day had passed. How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered! I can’t even count them; they outnumber the grains of sand!

Psalm 139:13,16-18 (nlt)

The beach is a very wonderful place for me. I didn’t discover this until I was an adult. So it is with great delight that I watch my children enjoy the beach. We love to walk along the water’s edge. We walk where the waves come crashing in and the shells and small creatures wash in and wash out. With small nets we try to capture a treasure. Each shell is examined for its uniqueness and then treasured for the different colors and shape. Sometimes I wonder what type of creature has lived in the shell and where it has been. No two are alike.

We can praise our Abba Daddy God that you and I were made as unique creations. We each have our own DNA—our own fingerprint of God stamped upon our being. We were fashioned by the Creator of this universe for the purpose of bringing glory to our Abba Daddy God. He numbered our days. Like a master artist He sketched out a master plan for our lives. We are invited to live out the Master’s plan.

Sometimes I sit rubbing my feet in the sand. I am amazed at the infinite number of grains of sand. I will scoop it into my hands and let it run through my fingers as I recall the verses of today’s passage. The thoughts of my Abba Daddy God toward me and you outnumber the grains of sand. Think about that! He has personal thoughts for us. Does that put you into a state of awe? Does it cause you to feel warm and secure? The God of this universe thinks about you and about me! In fact, His thoughts for us outnumber the grains of the sand. It is amazing. It is truth. When you and I are overlooked or mistreated by this world the God of this universe knows about it and has thoughts about you. When life is hard and you don’t know if you can take another breath or step, God thinks about you. Like the grains of sand, His thoughts are so numerous we cannot count them!

Dear God, thank You for uniquely creating me. I praise You for my being and for the plan that You have for my life! Help me to seek Your plan and to acknowledge You all of the days of my life! Amen.

  1. Just to know that with all the other grains of sand God still has my well being at heart, gives me reason to sing. Reading this devotion along with studying Job this quarter, renews my confidence that HE knows my heart and through it all I must keep praising Him and He will continue to direct my thoughts and actions to his great glory.

  2. Thank you so much for sharing this today. How amazing to think that God has personal thoughts for us each day. If only we would spend the time thinking of him like he thinks of us. How focused we would be.
