My Daddy I Can Trust!

Week 24, Friday
Diane Nix

I can never escape from your Spirit! I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. If I ride the wings of the morning, if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand will guide me, and your strength will support me. Psalm 139:7-10 (nlt)

I wasn’t supposed to be up on the roof. So when the sun began to sink into the horizon, I knew I was in trouble. I was stuck. I couldn’t get down. If I called out for my daddy he would know that I had disobeyed him. It had been easy to get up there. His truck was parked next to the house. I crawled into the bed of the truck, scrambled up onto the top of the cab, and then climbed up onto the edge of the sloped roof. What I didn’t realize was that while it was fairly easy to climb up, I couldn’t climb down. I couldn’t see the truck or anything else for the setting sun was shooting rays at such an angle that I was blinded. I couldn’t see the ground. It was not going to be a pleasant experience to call my daddy. But if I wanted down from that roof that was exactly what I was going to have to do.

At that moment, I heard my dad ask, “Di, where are you?” I mustered my courage and spoke, “Up here, Daddy.” He asked how I had gotten up there and then ordered me down immediately. I explained my circumstances and then he spoke very clearly, “Sit down on your bottom. Slide to the edge, then jump and I will catch you.” I sat down and slid to edge of the roof. I could hear his voice but could not see him because of the glare of the setting sun. I told him that I was afraid. He stated firmly that he could see me and that I was to listen for his voice and jump. I took a deep breath and jumped down into the strong arms of my daddy.

Your Abba Daddy God knows where you are and He is ever present with you. You can trust Him to take care of you. Call upon His name!

Dear God, please help me to understand that there is no place I can go that You don’t know about. Lead me to cry out to You when out of my pain or shame I want to remain quiet. I will listen for Your voice when I must jump out in faith. I will believe that You are there to catch me and guide me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
