We Are Valuable to God as Women

Week 42, Tuesday

So God created man in His own image; He created him in the image of God; He created them male and female. . . . Then the Lord God said, “It is not good for man to be alone. I will make a helper who is like him.” Genesis 1:27; 2:18 (hcsb)

There are so many misconceptions about being a woman. Stereotypes in our culture like “desperate housewife” or “radical feminist” are abundant. How do we sort out the truth from all this error? The answer always lies in the Bible. These two short verses are a source of purpose and meaning in life. Women were not an afterthought, because God is purposeful in all He does. He wanted us to be dependent on Him and on each other. He carefully balanced out humanity so we cannot function without each other. We tend to look at these verses only in terms of marriage, but God sees so much more. God created Eve specifically for Adam, but God created women in general for mankind. I often think if God had created only men, they probably would have already killed each other off! Remember Cain and Abel from Genesis? Women bring balance to humanity. We are the finishing touch!

Whether a woman is married or not, she can be a helper to mankind, and our world needs a lot of help! Think of women like Esther who saved her people from destruction. Think of many other great women in Scripture who encouraged others by their lives and words. Think of Mother Teresa who is known around the world, not for a position she held, but because she was a helper to the poor. There are people in our spheres of influence no one else can reach. God has put us on the earth for a reason. He gives each of us specific talents and personalities to help the world in our own special way. We must live our lives and use what God has given us to touch the world around us.

Thank You, God, for creating me as a woman. Thank You for putting people in my life who I can uniquely reach with Your love. Give me the grace to see Your purpose in my life and the ability to help the world in my own unique way. Amen.
