Worry-Where to Go?

“Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.”            Psalms 55:22

When you’re having a bad day, what do you do? Do you complain? Do you worry? Do you get upset?

We probably tend to do all three of those things. For some reason, there are those times we can’t seem to remember to take our problems to the Lord. Eventually we do, but not until we’ve tried everything else and exhausted every avenue. Even as minister’s wives, we can tend to save the Lord for last.  Psalm 55:22 basically tells us to pile our troubles on God’s shoulders and let Him carry our load, because He wants to help us out.

The people who annoy us…the worries of what tomorrow will bring…the unexpected news…the health that seems to be getting worse…the problems that we have should be taken to the Lord.  He’ll help us through them.  Things may not be going our way, but that’s okay! Sometimes there’s a reason things happen, even though we don’t understand at that moment why.
When things get tough we need to give it to God before anything else. He will help us get through it. Imagine how much easier and relaxed our lives would be if we just remembered to come to Him for EVERYTHING first.
Isaiah 41:10 reminds us,

“So don’t worry, because I am with you. Don’t be afraid because I am Your God. I will make you strong and will help you; I will support you with My right hand that saves you.”
Letting things worry us and make us afraid only brings us down and takes our focus away from God.  Instead of complaining, worrying, and stressing out, first just remember that God will give us strength to get through the hard times, if we’ll just come to Him. He should be our first answer, not our last choice.

Growing in God’s Grace,
Gina

We have been married for thirty years this December. Read more about Gina by clicking here.

  1. wow. This is exactly my morning devotional in Psalm 55 &56. I put a star next to the Bible verse 22,” Cast your cares on the Lord and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous fall.” before I read your devotional this afternoon. How the Lord gives us surprises , the same spirit, even picking the same verse of the day.

Last week, I was full or worry during the day as my daughter went back to her mission field teaching in a missionary school. She had a difficult first year with anxiety and even panic attacks at times. I was so preoccupied with her issues that I start to be waking up in the middle of the night. For a few nights,I asked the Lord to give me His word. He has been giving me a few promises until one night, the Lord said to me,”let go and let God”. After that, I had peace and fell asleep. The Lord has been blessing me good sleep every night
after a few weeks of rough nights. Praise be His name.
