A Recipe for Success
I was once given a cookbook that had no recipe with more than five ingredients. Wouldn’t it be nice to have a recipe for life with no more than five ingredients? In Psalm 37:3-7, God has done just that by giving us a simple recipe for the successful, rewarding Christian life. There are four “ingredients” listed in this psalm that comprise the recipe for spiritual growth. Just as adding ingredients in a recipe brings it closer to its finished product, adding these commands to our lives can bring us closer to spiritual maturity.
Trust: The more you learn about God through the study of His word, the more amazed you will become at the overwhelming theme of His faithfulness. From Genesis to Revelation, not once did He show anything short of unwavering and constant faithfulness. You can trust Him completely with your life.
Delight: When you trust completely in the Lord, you begin to delight in Him. Knowing that what He has for you is best, you will desire what He wants. He is always faithful to give you the desires of your heart as long as they are His desires.
Commit: Trusting and delighting in the Lord lead to a desire to commit our ways to Him. We can entrust our lives to God with great assurance that His way will be the perfect way. To know that the Creator of the universe has our lives in His control should take care of a lot of stress and pressure.
Be still: This command is sometimes by far the hardest one to obey. This world is like a microwave where everything is done quickly. There is little time to wait. God, however, is sometimes like a slow cooker. It may take longer to receive His answer, but it always comes out perfectly.
Father, I commit my life to You today because I trust and delight in You. Help me to be still in this fast-paced world so that my life will be filled with the best that You have for me. May my life bring You glory today. Amen.
