God is Faithful

Week 46, Weekend

Mary Mohler

He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
Philippians 1:6

How do you respond when the waiting is over? Resolution itself often brings relief. Certainly, there is joy if the result is one for which you have hoped. There may even be gratitude if the Lord shows you why His answer is not what you requested and you can already see why. However, if after waiting the answer is clearly not what you wanted and you cannot see why, then what?

Some will ask, “Why me? Why can’t I be the one to get my ‘happily ever after’ result?” Our plans are not His plans. We must not lose sight of how many elements are interwoven when we talk about waiting, trusting, and seeking His will. Sometimes insecurities creep in here. Satan loves this. We start thinking, “I am just so ordinary. I know God loves me but I am just not a major player.”

Never forget that God has carefully designed each of us to fulfill His purposes for His glory. That may mean going down paths we wouldn’t choose and doing jobs that we wouldn’t ask to do. Will we trust God to be God and follow Him? When His answer to our carefully crafted plan is no, will we trust in His sovereign love for us? Do we believe that He who began a good work in us will be faithful to carry it on?

Perhaps you have heard this anonymous suggestion: “Live your life in such a way that when your feet hit the floor every morning, Satan shudders and says, ‘Oh no, she’s up!’”

I want to be just that kind of woman, don’t you? I want Satan to be terrified because I am going to spend my day being about my Father’s business. Too many women don’t scare him at all. He scoffs, “Oh, I don’t worry about her. She is so self-absorbed. She’s no threat today or any day. I can keep her so entangled in worry and impatient discontent but she won’t ever really trust God.” Don’t let it happen to you. Be one more woman on Satan’s shudder list.

Lord, help me to wait for You to act and to rest securely in knowing that You will. Make me available for whatever kingdom tasks You send my way. Amen.
