Give Thanks In Everything

We urge you, brethren, admonish the unruly, encourage the fainthearted, help the weak, be patient with everyone.  See that no one repays another with evil for evil, but always seek after that which is good for one another and for all people.  Rejoice always; pray without ceasing; in everything give thanks; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.      I Thessalonians 5:14-18

Thanksgiving.  A time of year where we are encouraged to pause and thank the Lord for our many blessings.  In the U.S. we mark this holiday by eating, family and friend visits, parades and shopping and oh….more eating and more shopping! The retailers move into full throttle to finish the year in the black.  The deliberate act of thanksgiving can be lost.

The truth is that a woman of God should be living in an attitude of “thanks” every moment.  I know that the demands of family and ministry can put a strain on this but along with “prayer without ceasing” you and I should be giving thanks in the midst everything.  Notice I didn’t say that you and I had to be thankful that life was falling apart, harder than we ever thought it would be or down right impossible but in the midst of the toughest times of our lives you and I are to give thanks to the Lord for all that He carries us through.  Give thanks in every circumstance.

Thank Him for….

…giving you the strength to take the next step, the next breath

…your family

…trusting you with the hardest thing

…the days you had with your sweet loved one

…the testimony of grace He is pouring through you

…not leaving you in the midst of the circumstance

…His Wisdom

…His direction

…His Hope

…His Peace

…His Light

…His Word which is our comfort and strength  – our very food and power source in the midst of everything!

So as Thanksgiving Day approaches can we just begin to live as we should?  Can we as women set the pace and the example of living with thanksgiving in the midst of everything?  What do you think? Can you add to my list?

Thankful He plucked me out and called me His girl!

  1. Being thankful in all circumstances is hard but oh so necessary. Nearly three years ago I felt impressed that the Lord wanted me to praise him in all things and at the time, when things were going well, that didn’t seem so hard to do. Then just a few weeks later, I found out that my preacher husband had been having an affair with my best friend who also happened to be the minister of music’s wife. My whole life seemed to be falling apart and I was devastated. Lost, alone and uncertain if I could go on, the scripture kept coming back to me, praise the Lord no matter what happens. I went to the scriptures and read many Psalms because they help to praise. As I gave the entire situation over to the Lord with thanksgiving in my heart because he loved me no matter what, he was able to work in a beautiful way to restore love to our marriage and give my husband and I hope for a brighter future. He is worthy of all praise and thanksgiving no matter what this life dishes out to us. Thanks for this beautiful reminder.
