Bigger Than Life!
My daddy could have been John Wayne’s twin. He was ruggedly handsome and strong—very strong! He loved to ride horses and he could sit upon a horse better than most. I have a hazy memory of him from my toddler years. I was standing outside, and as I looked up from my toddler height, my daddy was riding up to me on his big horse. He was galloping, and when he neared me, he pulled back on the reins and his horse came skidding to a halt. What amazes me about this memory is that there is no fear associated with it at all. I stood watching as this giant of a horse came galloping to where I was standing and I did not flinch. I did not move. There was no shrinking back. I boldly and confidently stood my ground.
Then in the memory I looked up to the horse and then to the man. There he was—bigger than life. I reached my arms up and my daddy reached down and swooped me up to sit in front of him. With a squeeze of his legs, not uttering a word, and a turn of the reins we galloped off.
The world in which we live does not have many good examples of daddies. But our Abba Daddy God is bigger than this life. You and I, having accepted Jesus into our hearts, have been adopted into a bigger-than-this-life family! We are God’s daughters and by rights of adoption can cry out to Him, “Abba, Father!” We can stand boldly and confidently before Him and reach up our arms and He will swoop us up into His lap.
Dear Abba, I come to You today acknowledging You as my Abba Daddy God! You are the perfect daddy! Thank you for providing a way through the sacrifice of Your Son Jesus for me to know you as my Abba. Help me to see You and to know You for who You really are. Amen.
Sometimes our family experiences affect how we see life and relate with truth.
I never had a great relationship with my dad while growing up and its affected every of my relationship but thank God for the Holy Spirit who’s there to correct and modify us from within.
I can soooo relate. Praise our Abba who never ever stops modifying from the inside out!
