A Biblical Model for Womanhood
Week 17, Wednesday
Lori Frank
Teach the older women to be reverent in the way they live, not to be slanderers or addicted to much wine, but to teach what is good. Then they can train the younger women to love their husbands and children, to be self-controlled and pure, to be busy at home, to be kind, and to be subject to their husbands, so that no one will malign the word of God. Titus 2:3-5
Women today are bombarded with images of female achievement evidenced by supermodel beauty, fabulous wealth, powerful influence, and fleshly indulgence. This view of feminine fulfillment is even invading the church. So many women and girls today are finding that making these things their goals in life leads down a road of empty loneliness. But God’s plan for biblical womanhood is rooted in service and discipline. The fruit of this kind of life is more rewarding than anything the world could offer.
Women should passionately strive for excellence in every phase and season of life. Reverence, freedom from addiction, and godly speech are expected of older women in Christ. Striving for a mature and balanced life is the goal to add to the pattern of life that Scripture recommends for young women.
Young women must make loving their husbands and children their life’s work. Learning to be pure and practical and run her home with wisdom are things a young lady can learn from a woman who has walked longer with God. Respecting, serving, and being a helper to our husbands are ways we honor God’s Word.
Living out a biblical model for womanhood is a great testimony to our daughters and to the world that God’s ways are for our good. Our role is one that must be taken seriously and held as a sacred honor.
As we go about the tasks of our daily lives, whether grocery shopping, diaper changing, cooking, cleaning, or building our husbands up, we must dedicate our lives to doing all to the glory of God. We must value our role. In doing so we win a beauty that is imperishable, lay up for ourselves treasures in heaven, and build up men who can lead us into the future.
Lord, in the mundane tasks of my day let me make each one an offering to You. Help me grow in discipline. Keep me pure. Make me reverent and respectful of my husband and his role. Help me run my home efficiently and let it be a loving haven for my family. Let Your name be praised in my life as a woman. Amen.
