We Are Valuable to God Because He Has Work for Us to Do

Week 42, Weekend

For we are His creation—created in Christ Jesus for good works, which God prepared ahead of time so that we should walk in them. Ephesians 2:10 (hcsb)

When I think of God the Creator and all He has made, I am amazed. There is such variety, color, and diversity all around us! God, who created the universe, also has a specific plan for us. He prepared work for us before we were born and created us specifically to accomplish those plans.

God created everything with purpose. He knew who our family would be. He knew who our neighbors would be. He knew what the world would need and how we could contribute. He put abilities and personality inside of us because He had a plan to use them. Sometimes we get hung up on titles and positions. God just shakes His head. He wants us to fulfill His plan for our lives no matter what that may be. Earthly titles mean nothing to Him. Positions are necessary for leading people and organizations, but they do not make us more valuable to God.

Living in an area near San Francisco where there are few Christians reminds me that I may be the only Christian some people know. I may be the only one who shares Christ with my hairdresser. I may be the only Christian who prays for the store clerk near my house. God planned for me to be right where I am so I would share His love in my own unique way. He prepared work for me to do—here and now!

The work changes and unfolds over the years. But even when my body is frail and my primary ministry is prayer, I will pray fervently. I do not want to miss out on the joy of doing the work God has planned for me, no matter what that may be.

Thank You, God, for creating me with purpose. Thank You for preparing work for me to do. Help me see the world with Your eyes and see what You have uniquely gifted me to do. Help me to serve You joyfully wherever You place me in Your world. Amen.
