Who Knows?

I am learning a valuable life and leadership principle from God’s Word that can be summed up in two words: Who knows? We find it in Esther 4:14 where Esther puts everything on the line to fulfill her life’s work. It’s mentioned again in 2 Samuel 12 and in Joel 2, which indicates we don’t know what the Lord has planned through this particular occasion. Who knows?
It has been my experience that the Lord brings us to “Who knows?” experiences in life because there are some things He wants us to know. There have been many times in my life when I did not know what to do, just as it says in 2 Chronicles 20:12. From that chapter we find seven things we can do in preparation to fulfill our life’s work.
1. Seek the Lord
2. Recall His faithfulness
3. Admit your limitations
4. Position yourself
5. Expect answers
6. Watch God
7. Move forward
Second Corinthians 5:5 says, “God himself has prepared us for this, and as a guarantee he has given us his Holy Spirit” (nlt). Although we might not know where our present circumstances are leading or what the outcome will be, we can rest assured He knows. So don’t quit when things don’t turn out the way you pray. “Don’t drag your feet in this! God has chosen you to take your place before him to serve . . . this is your life work; make sure you do it and do it well” (2 Chronicles 29:10-11, msg).
Jeremiah reminds us of two important yet contrasting attitudes we can have. First, “My people would not listen to me. They kept on doing whatever they wanted, following the stubborn desires of their evil hearts. They went backward instead of forward” (Jeremiah 7:24, nlt). Contrast this with “Whether we like it or not, we will obey the Lord our God” (Jeremiah 42:6, nlt). May we take the attitude of full obedience and “take courage to fulfill our duties” (see 2 Chronicles 19:11).
Lord, please give me wisdom and discernment to know what to do. I want to move forward in my walk with You and respond favorably to Your directions and instructions for my life. Thank You for Your faithfulness to guide me and the Holy Spirit to help me every day. Amen.
