We Are Valuable to God

Week 42, Monday

Ann Iorg

I will praise You, because I have been remarkably and wonderfully made. Your works are wonderful and I know [this] very well.

Psalm 139:14 (hcsb)

We are valuable to God. He created us and everything He created is good. He loves us and was willing to give His only Son that we might have a right relationship with Him. Why then, do we have so much trouble believing God values us? The problem lies not with our value, but with our perception. Value is in the eye of the beholder. God is the Creator and beholder, not us. He sees us with spiritual eyes. He thinks we are a wonderful creation! We see our flaws, our mistakes, our sins, and our pain. God sees His beautiful creation uniquely made for His specific plan. We see the outward limitations; God sees our potential.

So how do we see our value through God’s perspective? The first step is realizing we are poor appraisers of value. We need a new book of standards—the Bible. Do we really believe what God says about us? We have a choice to make. Are we going to take God at His Word and start looking for the spiritual good? We must stop dwelling on our perspective and start focusing our attention on the truth of God. We need to celebrate the beautiful creation God made and refuse to dwell on our outward limitations. We cannot let our earthly perception keep us from living the life God has planned for us.

Thank You, God, for creating me just as I am. Help me to see myself through Your spiritual eyes. Help me to see the person I am becoming. Help me to choose to live by faith and cooperate with You as You mold and shape me into what I was created to be. Amen.
