Week 25, Thursday

Two are better than one; because they have a good reward for their labour.

Ecclesiastes 4:9 (kjv)

My husband and I labor together in ministry. He is indeed the head, and I’m his support. In earlier days, I wished I could sing before he preached. Through many trying times, I have come to know that my call to prayer and the persistence in it was the greater need.

As team players, our passions are the same in nature. His desire is to disciple men and my desire is to disciple women. After thirty-four years of investing our lives in individuals, our good reward is very visible. We have been blessed to see the outcome of the Word of God in so many lives.

John 15:7-8 says, “If ye abide in me, and my words abide in you, ye shall ask what ye will. . . . Herein is my Father glorified, that ye bear much fruit” (kjv).

In our early twenties, we began sharing our faith on street corners. Those days appeared fruitless. We never imagined that in our golden age we would see fruit from that time of planting. We marvel as we watch the maturity of those who were considered least likely to grow.

Our cooperation with each other and the Spirit of God has proved successful. We couldn’t ask for any greater reward than to witness mature lives in Jesus Christ.

Watching family, friends, and foes enjoying and obeying the Word of God has renewed our commitment to discipleship. We’re not sure why the Lord has allowed us to see results in this season. We know that the results would have been different if we had been striving alone. With so many fruitless years, we were there to encourage one another. When it appeared hopeless, one of us could see a ray of hope.

We are overwhelmed as testimonies of spiritual growth continue to come in. We fear that if the Lord had withheld the vision and the power to persevere, we would have missed this moment.

If you’re out there and hope is fading, continue to persevere. Join forces with someone to complete the assignment. Don’t look for the fruit; the fruit will look for you.

Lord, I bless You for the privilege to colabor with You in the vineyard. I am honored that You have chosen me for such an assignment. Thank You for evidence of maturation and for someone to work along side of in Your kingdom. Amen.
