Show Me, Teach Me, Lead Me

Week 16, Weekend

Show me Your ways, O Lord; teach me Your paths. Lead me in Your truth and teach me, for You are the God of my salvation; on You I wait all the day. Psalm 25:4-5 (nkjv)

“Show me . . . teach me . . . lead me.” These are strong words of direction. As we walk in God’s truth and grace, we recognize the only real source of our strength—He is our God and our only salvation. There’s nothing better we can do with our time than to “wait on Him” all the day. But I don’t believe that is a command to literally “wait all day” and do nothing with our time, but to be so concentrated on His purpose that our thoughts, actions, and steps display that we are totally focused on His plan for our lives for that day.

As I consider these very specific directions and apply them to our daily lives as women, I see such clear benefit to following those steps. First, it’s only when we are consistent in spending time in His Word that He will be able to show us. As we spend time in His Word and ponder His teaching, we can apply the principles of His truth in our daily lives. We must recognize Him as the one true source to help us cope with all of life’s experiences, regardless of what the day may hold. And finally, He leads us, as we completely yield to Him in order that He can accomplish His purpose in our lives, which may include a departure from our original “to do” list!

Show me. Teach me. Lead me. Should this not be our daily prayer? Regardless of how busy our schedules may be, holding on to and practicing these principles will build strong spiritual disciplines for our daily lives.

Are you willing to use the “show me, teach me, lead me” planner for your daily walk? Women love planners. We spend lots of money on just the right planner, whether it’s our iPhone, Blackberry, or even the old-fashioned way of writing out our lists. We want a customized plan that is just perfect for us. I believe God wants us to have His mental planner of “show me, teach me, lead me” to help us accomplish His will and purpose for our daily lives.

Father, today I exchange my planner for Your planner. Guide my day as I resolve to follow Your plan—show me, teach me, lead me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
