Satan’s Words to Us

Week 4, Tuesday
Donna Avant

Then I heard a loud voice in heaven say: “Now have come the salvation and the power and the kingdom of our God, and the authority of his Christ. For the accuser of our brothers, who accuses them before our God day and night, has been hurled down. They overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony; they did not love their lives so much as to shrink from death.” Revelation 12:10-11

My outburst of angry words is over. I am left sitting on the couch sobbing. I have failed again. I have used my tongue to wound the one on this earth I love the most. What is wrong with me? How can I lead anyone or anybody? If others heard what I just said, they would be stunned.

I hear the words failure and hypocrite. These are the words of the accuser.

I grab God’s Word and read,

Here is a trustworthy saying that deserves full acceptance: Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners—of whom I am the worst. But for that very reason I was shown mercy so that in me, the worst of sinners, Christ Jesus might display his unlimited patience as an example for those would believe on him and receive eternal life. (1 Timothy 1:15-16)

As I begin to confess to my Savior, the weight of guilt and condemnation are lifted. His words were not ones of heckling and jeering at my human inadequacies and sin. His words are ones of forgiveness, mercy, and grace.

I stand up and face my accuser. “Satan, you are right. I am a sinner. But I am a sinner saved by the blood of the Lamb!” I am accused no more!

I can’t take the words back that I said earlier. Once they are said, they are said. It would be like squeezing all the ketchup out of the bottle and then using a teaspoon to try and put it back into the bottle. Once it is all squeezed out, there is nothing but a big, red, sticky mess left. Hurtful words are very similar.

I pick up the phone to call the one I wounded. As I begin to apologize and ask for forgiveness, I realize what I have done. I have accused. I have joined Satan in his game of accusations!

Oh, Lord let me never play Satan’s game of accusations. Lord, don’t let me believe his accusations or make accusations myself. Lord, let me live in “the salvation, and the power and the kingdom of our God and the authority of his Christ” and overcome by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of my testimony. In Jesus’ name, amen.
