Our Times Are in His Hands
Week 16, Wednesday
Jeana Floyd
But as for me, I trust in You, O Lord; I say ‘You are my God.’ My times are in your hand.
Psalm 31:14-15 (nkjv)
Have you ever had a day that didn’t quite end up the way you planned? All of us have experienced that more than once—maybe even habitually.
When we recognize that truly “our times are in His hands” we gain a different perspective on the daily experience. After my diagnosis of cancer twenty years ago, I quickly realized that despite my best-laid plans, my times were definitely in His hands. My life changed dramatically in a matter of minutes with that diagnosis. Was that a surprise to God? Absolutely not! What was a shock to me on that day in my life was God-ordained. But knowing He was in charge of my life on that particular life-changing day made an incomprehensible day comprehensible. I simply had to trust that my times were truly in His hands. Would we want to trust in anything else? The safety and security of knowing that our future depends on Him and not on our planned activities should be a comfort to the soul of one trusting in Him alone.
Knowing that our times are in His hands can be a tremendous advantage in managing the busy times of our lives and helps to keep perspective on what’s important and what’s not. How much time we all waste on frivolity and things that are unimportant! We all need accountability to ensure that we spend our hours in a way that would be pleasing to Him, bring glory to His name, and bring about productivity that is beneficial to our daily lives.
Let’s be intentional about the realization that although we make plans, our real plans are up to Him and His working in our lives. When we recognize God’s existence in each and every moment of our lives, we cope better when things go contrary to the way we planned.
Practice acknowledging this: “I trust in You. You are my God, and I trust Your will for me today.”
Dear Lord Jesus, whatever my day holds, I choose to remember that my times are in Your hands. I trust You for the details of my day and know that You always know what’s best. I rest in the safety and security of Your everlasting love for me. In Jesus’ name, amen.
