Live Worthily

Week 16, Tuesday

Just one thing: live your life in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ. Philippians 1:27 (hcsb)

Recently, I had an artist come to my home and paint the above Scripture over the cabinets in my kitchen. To me, personally, it serves as a measuring stick of what I want my daily life to look like. Regardless of what I have going on that day as a pastor’s wife, mom, grandmother, or friend and regardless of where my life may take me on any given day, does my life truly reflect a “manner worthy of the gospel of Christ”?

When we live harried and busy lives, sometimes there is the temptation to run roughshod over others exerting an attitude of “get out of my way—I’ve got things to do!” Dear sisters, may we never be so busy that our lives would not be exemplary of Christ and His example to follow.

What about our “to do” lists? I can’t think of anyone who had more important things to do and accomplish in a limited amount of time than Jesus did. And yet He always had time to be kind to others and honor His Father in a manner worthy of His calling.

Won’t you join me today in asking this question: “Am I living my life in a manner worthy of the gospel of Christ—regardless of what I do, where I go, and who I see?” Let’s not let personal schedules and busyness become a hindrance to our testimony for the gospel of Christ. If we are overwhelmed with the activity of our day, let this “one thing” be foremost in our mind. Surely we can focus on “just one thing” no matter how busy we are. May we portray a sense of calm and serenity and kindness toward others as we go about our daily activities, knowing that we are a representation of the Most High One—Jesus.

Dear Lord Jesus, may my life be an example that is worthy of the gospel of Christ. Whatever I do, wherever I go, and whomever I come in contact with, may they see the resounding influence of Christ in me. It is only by Your love and grace that I have been forgiven and may I ever walk worthy of the gospel of Christ. In Jesus’ name, amen.
