His Storehouse

He stores up sound wisdom for the upright; He is a shield to those who walk in integrity;

… He preserves the way of His godly ones…discretion will guard you… Proverbs 2:7,11

I need a shield to go before me day after day… don’t you? I find security in the fact that God is a buffer between the world and me—that His love filters everything that touches my life. Proverbs says he is a shield TO those who walk in integrity. Scripture often implies if-then scenarios; and this passage says when we live a life that matches our words, He is our shield.

We are in process, always becoming, as we attempt to translate the truth of scripture into our everyday life. There is usually some lag between what we know and how we live, but there is no escape clause! We must continue toward the challenge to make integrity our quality of life.

Integrity means high standards, not for everyone else, but for me too. It requires honesty and sincerity. There is little place for sarcasm, put-downs or haughtiness. It means we are the same person on Monday that we portray to be on Sunday…

There is no alternative to obedience. God’s word is very clear about how we must live. When we do our part, we find God has already done His part as we discover the storehouse of sound wisdom. A paraphrase of James 1:5,6 says if anyone lacks wisdom ask God for some, but ask in faith… When we ask for wisdom and God will respond. It is stored up for us!

He IS a shield for us. He is our protection.

Today, ask God to do an integrity check-up for you. It may be a bit unpleasant at first, but the result is peace, calm, and renewed energy to live today to please Him. Thank Him for being your shield that absorbs the fiery darts, that deflects arrows aimed your way, and that protects you from harm.
