Share the Blessing of Faith

Week 36, Monday
Heather Platt

So faith comes from hearing, and hearing through the word of Christ. Romans 10:17 (esv)

How can we have faith? Through hearing the word of Christ and putting our complete trust in Him.

I remember the first time I heard and understood the gospel. I was a senior in high school when the Lord spoke clearly to my heart through the preaching of God’s Word. I was a wretched sinner in need of a righteous Savior to free me from myself. I praise the Lord for the Word of Christ that was preached that day and for the way that Word began to transform my life from the inside out. By the power of the Spirit of God, the Word did the work, and I was drawn to faith in Christ.

This is not just how faith in Christ was born in me; it is also how faith in Christ comes about in others. Individuals who are lost and without Christ cannot come to faith in Christ until they hear His Word. But how will they hear it unless we take it to them? I sometimes wonder where I would be if my friend in high school had not loved me enough to invite me to church. I wonder what would have happened if the preacher had delivered his own ideas and thoughts instead of proclaiming the Word of Christ that day. Where would I be?

Romans 10:14-15 asks the questions, “How then will they call on him in whom they have not believed? And how are they to believe in him of whom they have never heard? And how are they to hear without someone preaching? And how are they to preach unless they are sent?” (esv). When we look at these verses in connection with Romans 10:17, we realize that God sends us to proclaim His Word, and when people hear His Word from us, faith becomes a reality in their lives. The entire process begins with all of us who have the Word of Christ proclaiming that Word to others.

Who in your life needs to hear the Word of Christ so that they might be drawn to faith in Him? We must not hoard the blessing of faith today. We must share the gospel with everyone we can.

Lord Jesus, thank You for giving me faith through Your Word. Help me to be quick to share your Word with others today. Help me, Lord, to grow in my faith, as I grow in the knowledge of Your Word. Amen.
