Leading of the Spirit

Leading of the Spirit

Teach me to do your will, for you are my God; may your good Spirit lead me on level ground.

Psalm 143:10

The most important decision for me to make, day by day, is to do God’s will. By my surrendering to the Spirit, reading and studying the Word of God, and praying daily, God enables me to know His will.

The Holy Spirit speaks to my heart to guide me in following God’s will. As our key verse says, “Teach me to do your will, for you are my God” (emphasis added). Because of the Spirit’s presence in our hearts, we are open to hear His voice. This voice assured Isaiah, “Whether you turn to the right or to the left, your ears will hear a voice behind you, saying, ‘This is the way; walk in it’” (Isaiah 30:21).

God will surely guide us into His good plan. As David said in Psalm 143:10, “Teach me . . . lead me.”

When I was a young child growing up, our church was in downtown Memphis, Tennessee. When we left the church on Sunday nights, it was extremely dark outside. I recall my father taking my hand and patiently leading me to his car.

Our heavenly Father is the same way. He wants us to walk in the Spirit, to be led by the Spirit, and to wait for His leading. In my life, I am still learning patience and not to rush ahead of the Lord’s plan.

Do you find yourself trying to accomplish your own will instead of God’s? Be open to the Spirit’s voice and directions and allow Him to lead you to the Way.

Father, teach me to do Your will. Lead me by Your Spirit and help me to wait for Your direction this day. Amen.
