Past Perfect

Week 38, Wednesday

Leigh Lowery

He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. As a father has compassion on his children, so the Lord has compassion on those who fear him.

Psalm 103:10-13

We agonize and worry about our pasts. We look back and ask ourselves how we could have done those things, acted the way we did, or said such hurtful words. Sometimes we go to dark places and relive the horrible things that we did or that were done to us and we feel ashamed, angry, empty, or worse, crushed in spirit.

We can do two hundred things right and one thing wrong. If we are not careful, we dwell on that one thing. We “supersize” that mistake and refuse to let it go.

How wonderful is this truth: We can’t do anything to cause God to love us any less, and we can’t do anything to cause God to love us any more! He is our perfect heavenly Father, and He loves us with a perfect love. He not only removes our sins but chooses not to bring them to our attention anymore.

Why worry about the past? It only ruins the present.

Read all of Psalm 103 today. Praise God that He forgives all your sins, heals your diseases, redeems your life from the pit, crowns you with love, and satisfies your desires with good things so that your youth is renewed like the eagles. Thank Him for being the lifter of your head and rest in His love and forgiveness for you.

Lord, Your unconditional love, Your total acceptance, and Your complete forgiveness free me from the bondage of past sins and mistakes. You give me the power and freedom to become the godly woman You created me to be. With a thankful heart I give myself to You. Use me to encourage others and bring You honor and glory. Amen.

  1. I love the song Jesus Loves Me. I know many consider it a child’s song but I am so glad He loves me. Thank you Lord for your love!
