Delight in Christ
Week 26, Tuesday

Praise the Lord! Blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who delights greatly in His commandments.
Psalm 112:1 (nasb)
When we come into God’s presence in worship and contemplate who He is and all He has done for us, our hearts are filled with awe and praise. He has forgiven us a debt we could never pay. We can experience a relationship with God Almighty, who is our heavenly Father. That is truly amazing!
When our hearts are rightfully focused on our Lord, obedience to His Word will never be a burden. It will not be done out of a sense of duty or obligation. Rather, our obedience will flow out of love and sheer delight for our Lord. When a bride walks down the aisle and says her vows to her bridegroom, she doesn’t say them merely out of duty. She says her vows out of a sense of delight. She is focused on her bridegroom, and her heart is filled with love and admiration for him. Her groom’s presence brings her tremendous pleasure and joy. That is how we as the bride of Christ should delight in our Bridegroom and His commands.
As the bride of Christ we long to know God’s will for our lives and to draw wisdom from His instructions. We eagerly search His words, which are so practical and relevant for every situation in which we find ourselves. Our motivation for obedience should be our great delight for Him and His Word. The psalmist wrote, “How sweet are Your words to my taste! Yes, sweeter than honey to my mouth!” (Psalm 119:103, nasb). He could say that because of his love and admiration for the One who gave those words to him. He could trust every single word. As the bride of Christ we too should delight in our Bridegroom, Jesus Christ, and obey Him out of a sense of admiration and privilege.
Lord, I praise You today for who You are. I praise You for all of Your marvelous works. Teach me to find great delight in You and Your precious instructions for me. Thank You that I can trust every word You’ve given me. Help me to allow Your Word to guide me today. Teach me to depend upon You to meet any and every need that I may have. In Your precious Son’s name, amen.
