Our Hope!

There are many sources of hope, or at least that is what the wisdom of the world tells us. We can hope in our job, our husband, our abilities and our friends. There are many sources of struggles too. It could be an illness that brings fear and anxiety. Or perhaps financial pressures cause you to wonder how you will ever make ends meet. And one that I think that may cause the deepest hurt and sense of hopelessness is when those you thought you could trust turn on or abandon you during these times of struggle.  Finances, family, friends, health and other endeavors all can be fleeting and disappointing. Where can you turn for hope and security? Far too often we unintentionally get wrapped up in caring for others and ourselves to the detriment of our relationship with the One who will...

What’s love….

I was silently disgusted on Super Bowl Sunday at one particular ad. This certain ad was a floral company cunningly implying that if the men of the world would send their woman flowers, they would get “lucky.”
Kasey Ewing
It was repulsive. It sort of made my skin crawl as I was sitting next to my fifteen year old son and wondering what impression that was making on him.
Send flowers = get lucky.
Seriously? I have been contemplating love all day. 1 Corinthians defines love so differently. "Love is patient, kind, it doesn’t envy, boast, dishonor, or is proud. Love isn’t self-seeking, isn’t easily angered, and it keeps no record of wrongs. Love delights in truth; it always protects,  always trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres" Wow, love doesn’t really have much to do with flowers. Don’t get me wrong, I am not against flowers but they don’t define if...

Love God!

In an attempt to trap him, an expert in the law asked Jesus the following question:  ..."Teacher, which is the most important commandment in the law of Moses?"  Jesus replied, "'You must love the LORD your God with all your heart, all your soul, and all your mind.'  This is the first and greatest commandment.  A second is equally important:  'Love your neighbor as yourself.'  The entire law and all the demands of the prophets are based on these two commandments."  God's love is best described and translated with the word "agape".  Agape love is the love that one writer expressed, "sets us free"!  I love that.  You and I are to love (agape) God with every fiber of our being!  He has loved us with this type of love.  He has loved us with "hesed" love. Covenant binding love that He will never break.  Yet He has also loved us with "agape" love. ...

Love Your Man

"These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children, to live wisely and be pure, to work in their homes,to do good, and to be submissive to their husbands. Then they will not bring shame on the word of God." Titus 2:4-5 NLT I trust that this is your heart. But depending on the moment how does that play out, what type of love is it and does he see/feel it? Far too often amidst the busyness of ministry, demands of family and social life we lose sight of what is most important. As a result we "love" our husbands when it fits into the schedule. We may be doing just fine keeping up with our duties as maid, chef and child care worker. We can become so busy serving our husbands that we overlook enjoying him. He may feel...
